The ingredients of beer / the constitutive elements of beer

To make beer, we need:

  • Hop:Hop is a climber of the hemp family. It needs a support and can grow up to 8 metres.
  • Malt: Malt is barley that is has been artificially germinated, then dried and ground into flour, to make it into beer.
  • Yeast:  Yeast ferments the malt sugar into alcohol and CO2. The yeast influences the taste of the beer and is cultivated with care.
  • Water: the water used in the brewing process has to conform to the rigorous law concerning drinking water and must be very soft. In Wiltz, we have many springs. Sometimes, we must bore 30 metres deep to reach ground water.
